TMJ and TMD

Millions of Americans live with chronic facial and neck pain and recurring headaches. Sometimes the cause is temporomandibular disorder, or TMD.

Your jaw joints

Your temporomandibular joints connect your lower jaw to your skull and work all day as you speak, chew, swallow and yawn. Pain in and around them can be unpleasant, restrict movement and affect your quality of life.

Symptoms of TMD

  • Pain in the jaw area
  • Pain, ringing or stuffiness in the ears
  • Frequent headaches or neck aches
  • Clicking or popping when the jaw moves
  • Swelling on the sides of the face
  • Muscle spasms in the jaw
  • A change in how the top and bottom teeth meet
  • A locked jaw or limited opening

If you notice any of these, let us know. Our dentists can identify TMD and create an effective treatment just for you. Digital CT imaging helps plan TMJ treatment.
